Interpretation and Self Expression are an integral part of a dancer! CanDance would like to assist young dancers to be able to express their creativity through contemporary movement. This category will allow dancers to experience IMPROV on stage! Dancers will dance in two levels, Junior 9 - 12 and Senior 13 & Over. They will have the opportunity to listen to a song chosen by the judges. Each dancer will pick a number out of a hat and dance in that order. Dancers will be allowed to dance for one minute. Song choice will be at the discretion of the judges, including whether dancers will have to dance to the same song or different songs. Dancers will not be given a critique or score. The 3 judges will confer, and then place the category for scholarships. Scholarships will be dependant on the number of entries. Judges will be looking for creativity, emotional execution, technique, interpretation, musicality and overall performance. There is no dress code, however, dance wear in its simplest form with no costumes.

Another part of becoming a professional dancer is to get in the door for an audition. Modelling also another aspect of the dance industry. Dancers can submit up to 3 photos (may be dance photos or head shots). Judges will choose and award a trophy to one winner per city who they feel is "Most Photogenic". There is no age category and the award is dependent on the number of entries. The category will be split into two age divisions. Please submit entries by mail and specify which city you will be competing in. All submissions must be made by the dance studio. All photos are solely for the use of the "Most Photogenic" competition and will not be sold, distributed, or reproduced to other parties. All photos will become the property of CanDance and will not be returned.
